Tip
Bring a blanket, warm jacket, and folding chair – even in July, it gets cool on the castle after sunset. Sturdy footwear is recommended due to the ascent.
Burg Siersberg
Burg Siersberg is a hilltop castle in the municipality of Rehlingen-Siersburg in the Saarlouis district. It sits enthroned on a rocky outcrop above the Saartal and was built in the Middle Ages as a border fortification for the County of Saarbrücken. Today, the castle is a ruin, its walls and towers preserved and serving as a venue – with an unforgettable panoramic view of the Saar.
BurgSommer as Festival Framework
The open-air cinema is part of the BurgSommer 2026 event series, with which the municipality of Rehlingen-Siersburg fills the historic castle complex with life during the summer. Concerts, theater performances, readings, and the cinema form a diverse program throughout the season. The Kino auf der Burg is one of the most atmospheric events in the program.
Two Evenings of Open-Air Cinema
On July 24 and 25, 2026, the castle wall becomes the screen. What will be shown is usually announced shortly before the date on the municipal website and in the local Saarland press – the organizer relies on a mix of current cinema highlights and films with a Saarland connection. Advance tickets are usually available from the municipal administration.
Film Enjoyment in a Unique Setting
The marketing promise "Film enjoyment in a unique setting" is not just a marketing slogan here, but a reality: sitting at the castle, you don't just watch a film, you experience the atmosphere of a Saarland summer evening with the medieval backdrop behind you. Bringing a blanket or folding chair is recommended – the castle is not a classic cinema hall.
In the Saarlouis District
Rehlingen-Siersburg is located in western Saarland between Saarlouis and Merzig. The municipality with around 14,500 inhabitants consists of several districts along the Saar. Those who want to combine a visit to the castle cinema with a Saarland weekend will find many hiking trails in the region, the nearby Saarschleifenland, and the German-French border area.
