Summer of culture at Burg Siersberg — from May festival to September auto cinema
BurgSommer in Rehlingen-Siersburg is not a single event, but a carefully curated program series spanning five months. Between May and September, around a dozen events take place at the historic Siersberg Castle and on the town hall square in the Siersburg district. The program is supported by the municipality of Rehlingen-Siersburg in the Saarlouis district, along with associations such as Bonjour Kultur e. V. and CAJ Siersburg.
Mayor Joshua Pawlak has expanded the format with new elements: tradition meets new program items. The series traditionally begins on May 1st with the May festival at the castle, followed by the cross-border Fête du Vin on the town hall square, a wine festival celebrating Franco-German friendship in the SaarLorLux tri-border region. In June, the Fête de la Musique takes over, and in July, the castle becomes a concert arena with Heartland (Modern Country), Simply Unplugged, and acoustic sessions. The summer highlight is Cinema at the Castle, followed by an auto cinema in September on the Rehlingen festival grounds.
Siersberg Castle towers over the town of Siersburg and is one of the oldest castle ruins in Saarland. Documented as early as the 10th century, its castle plateau, old keep, and chapel provide a spectacular open-air backdrop. On clear days, the view extends far over the lower Saar valley into France.
Rehlingen-Siersburg is located in western Saarland, just a few kilometers from the French border. This proximity shapes the program: the wine festival with French vintners, the Fête de la Musique modeled after the French original, the CAJ castle festival with a cross-border character. BurgSommer is therefore also a cultural-political statement in the SaarLorLux tri-border region.
Those who visit Saarland more often in the summer can pick several dates. Families will find suitable programs, especially in July and September (Cinema at the Castle, Auto Cinema), connoisseurs will get their money's worth at the wine festival, and music lovers at the concerts in mid-July. Some events are free (May festival, Fête de la Musique), while others require advance tickets.
