Club festival of the volunteer fire brigade in Donau-Ries
The Sommerfest of the Fünfstetten Volunteer Fire Brigade is part of the rich club life of the municipality, which has just under 1,000 inhabitants, in the Donau-Ries district of Swabia. Fünfstetten is located between Nördlingen Ries and the Danube Valley on the B25 federal road and belongs to the administrative district of Wemding. The FF Fünfstetten, under the leadership of the municipality, uses the Sommerfest as its most important social event of the year, alongside the traditional Kesselspeckessen (kettle bacon eating).
The date in July is listed in the official event calendar of the municipality of Fünfstetten. Usually, the festival starts on Saturday afternoon with the opening ceremony, a Frühschoppen (morning pint) on Sunday, a festival kitchen with regional specialties, and live music. Families, hikers on the Donau-Ries circular trail, and neighboring communities of the Ries crater come together – a classic village festival, as is also common in neighboring communities such as Wemding, Otting, or Daiting.
In Bavaria – and especially in the Donau-Ries region – fire brigade festivals are the social backbone of rural communities. The Donau-Ries District Fire Brigade Association lists dozens of such summer festivals every year. The FF Fünfstetten joins this tradition and uses the proceeds to fund its equipment and youth work.
Fünfstetten is located on the edge of the Geopark Ries, the 15-million-year-old meteorite crater between the Swabian and Franconian Jura. Visitors to the Sommerfest can combine the day with hikes to the edge of the Ries or visits to Wemding and Nördlingen.
The 2026 edition is confirmed in the event calendar of the municipality of Fünfstetten for Saturday, July 4. The exact program – tapping of the keg, music band, festival kitchen – will be published as usual in the weeks before the festival by the FF Fünfstetten via the municipality and the fire brigade's Instagram page. A Frühschoppen, Franconian-Swabian specialties, and a family program are expected.
The Sommerfest is the second social highlight of the fire brigade in the municipality's annual calendar, following the traditional Kesselspeckessen.
Detailed program will be published before the festival by the municipality of Fünfstetten and the FF Fünfstetten.
