A day full of music and summer vibes in front of the Siersburg town hall
The Fête de la Musique, founded in Paris in 1982 by then-Minister of Culture Jack Lang, is now a global movement: on June 21 – the summer solstice – squares in over 1,300 cities transform into open music stages. In Rehlingen-Siersburg, Saarland, the Fête de la Musique has been held in front of the Siersburg town hall for several years – a one-day format where the municipality brings its music clubs, regional bands, and singer/songwriters to a central stage. Unlike the large Saarbrücken or Paris versions, the Siersburg format is manageable: one location, one day, a concentrated program.
The Fête de la Musique is embedded in the municipality's BurgSommer 2026, which fills Siersburg Castle and the town centers with concerts, theater, cinema, and folk festivals (Volksfeste) from May to September. The BurgSommer opens with the May Festival (Maifest) at the castle on May 1, followed by the Fête du Vin on May 16, and the Fête de la Musique on June 21 – a clear trio to kick off the summer festival season.
The program follows the traditional Fête de la Musique format: in the late afternoon, the local clubs set up their stalls – drinks, snacks, often cake from the women's choir. Amateur and professional musicians alternate on stage: school choirs, the local music association, singer/songwriters from the Saargau, a cover band in the evening, occasionally a folk ensemble from neighboring Lorraine. Admission is free, the atmosphere is family-friendly, and the end is open – usually around 11 PM.
The municipality of Rehlingen-Siersburg is located in the Saarlouis district in the Saargau, a cultural landscape on the Saarland-Lorraine border. With Siersburg Castle, the Saar Valley, the orchards, and its connection to Lorraine (Sarreguemines 25 km, Metz 50 km), the municipality offers a fitting setting for Franco-German cultural encounters. The Fête de la Musique is an expression of this cross-border cultural engagement.
Anyone walking through the Siersburg town hall district on June 21 will experience a relaxed festival day with a slightly French flair: wooden tables on the asphalt, wine bars (Bouchons) at the local pubs, musicians with acoustic guitars in the side streets, families with children at the playground. It's not a huge spectacle, but a summer evening celebrating the solstice in a rural Saargau community.
The event is officially confirmed as part of the BurgSommer 2026. The detailed program and performance order of the musicians will be published on the municipal website in the weeks leading up to the event.
Detailed hourly schedule and artist names will be published by the municipality of Rehlingen-Siersburg in Spring/Summer 2026.
