Open-Air at a Medieval Castle Ruin

The Siersburg castle sits enthroned on a rocky spur about 80 meters above the Saartal valley – remnants of an 11th-century medieval hilltop castle. Since the 1970s, this castle plateau has transformed into an open festival arena on the second weekend of July: the CAJ Burgfest. "From youth for youth" is the self-chosen motto of the organizers, CAJ Siersburg e.V., a volunteer-run youth initiative. With over 3,000 guests per event, the festival is the most important youth-oriented open-air party in the Saarlouis district.

Two Stages, Bands, and DJs

The musical offerings are spread across two stages: a live stage with regional cover bands from Saarland and the adjacent Palatinate, and a DJ stage with charts, Schlager, House, and party classics. Both stages are programmed consecutively, allowing the audience to seamlessly switch from the live concert area to the dance floor. The programming clearly targets an audience between 16 and 30 years old, but is no less appealing to older guests.

Fireworks at the Castle

A classic highlight of the festival is the fireworks display, which is set off around midnight above the castle plateau – visible far into the Saartal valley. The combination of castle ruins, summer night, and pyrotechnics is one of the most impressive visual spectacles the Saarland has to offer on a festival weekend.

Strictly Regulated Entry

The CAJ Burgfest places great importance on responsible adherence to the Youth Protection Act. Ticket required from age 14; young people under 16 only accompanied by a legal guardian. Between 16 years old and midnight, entry is possible with a valid ID; from midnight, the event is reserved for those over 18. Parental consent forms are expressly not accepted – a commitment to a clear legal line that has secured the festival's safety and broad acceptance.

CAJ Siersburg and the Municipality

The Christliche Arbeiterjugend (CAJ) Siersburg is the organizing force behind the festival and one of the most traditional youth clubs in Saarland. They run the festival entirely independently, from stage technology and catering to security and cleaning. The proceeds flow into the youth work of the CAJ and the maintenance of the castle ruins, in which the municipality of Rehlingen-Siersburg also participates. The Siersburg is located in the Saarlouis district near the French border and is part of the "BurgSommer 2026 in Rehlingen-Siersburg" initiative, which bundles the entire summer program around the ruins.
