Franconian Action Day on the theme »Cultural Landscapes«
The Day of Franconia is Franconia's regional action day and was introduced in 2006 by a resolution of the Bavarian State Parliament. It aims to showcase Franconia's cultural independence, historical depth, and economic diversity. The host is one of the three Franconian administrative districts (Middle Franconia, Lower Franconia, Upper Franconia) on an annual rotation. In 2026, the District of Middle Franconia will be the host; the host city is Treuchtlingen.
The main theme for 2026 is Cultural Landscapes – spaces shaped by humans where ecological function, agricultural use, and cultural identity intertwine. Middle Franconia contributes a particularly broad spectrum of such landscapes with the Franconian Jura, the Franconian Lake District (Brombach, Igelsbach, and Altmühl lakes), wine and hop-growing regions, and scattered orchards. Preparatory events will accompany the theme leading up to the festival day.
Open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The day begins with an ecumenical service in the Markgrafenkirche at 9 a.m. At 10 a.m., the official ceremony will take place with Bavaria's Minister President Dr. Markus Söder, District President Peter Daniel Forster, and Treuchtlingen's First Mayor Dr. Dr. Kristina Becker; the new Middle Franconian stanza of the Franconian anthem will be presented. Afterwards, the stage program begins: David Saam, Boxgalopp, and comedian Christoph Maul, as well as several dance floors with folk music groups and dance formations will shape the day. The POP-UP! Mobile will feature young Franconian bands.
Numerous stands in the city center will showcase regional producers, craftspeople, associations, and institutions. In the museum area, the traveling exhibition »Of Hop Gardens and Carp Ponds« will be on display, commemorating the historical shaping of Middle Franconia by hop cultivation and fish farming.
Treuchtlingen is located on the Altmühl river in the district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen, on the edge of the Franconian Lake District and the Franconian Jura. With its historic Markgrafenkirche, Karlsgraben canal, and its position at the junction of railway lines to Nuremberg, Augsburg, Würzburg, and Donauwörth, the city is an ideal host for this supra-regional festival day, both logistically and culturally.
