30th Anniversary of Germany's Largest Extreme Metal Festival at Obermehler-Schlotheim Airfield — Hell Is Here
The Party.San Metal Open Air — short form P.S. MOA — is Germany's largest festival specializing purely in Extreme Metal. First held in 1996, it has become a fixture in the international Death/Black/Doom Metal calendar over three decades. The 2026 edition celebrates the 30th anniversary under the motto 'Hell Is Here' on the expansive grounds of the Obermehler-Schlotheim Airfield in northern Thuringia.
In 2026, the curation once again focuses on a mix of international headliners and underground gems. Testament, Amorphis, and Hypocrisy are confirmed as headliners, alongside Black Metal giants like Marduk and Dark Funeral, the atmospheric avant-garde contribution from Alcest, Portuguese Gothic metallers Moonspell, French post-black project Celeste, and Death Metal specialists such as Misery Index, Wormed, and Devourment. Panzerfaust expands the Black Metal spectrum from Canada. A total of 57 bands are confirmed.
P.S. MOA remains true to its reputation: not a mainstream festival, but a dedicated camping event with two stages, an international underground atmosphere, and a crowd that has been part of it since the late 1990s. Camping opens on Wednesday, August 5th (10 AM), with food and drinks available from Wednesday evening until Sunday morning. Advance sales are through Cudgel Mailorder; the 3-day ticket starts in the Earlybird contingent for €165.49 (first 1666 tickets).
The venue is located in Obermehler, a district of the municipality of Nottertal-Heilinger Höhen in the Unstrut-Hainich district (state of Thuringia). The Obermehler-Schlotheim Airfield, with its long asphalt runway and extensive meadow areas, is a classic metal festival site — camping, stages, and infrastructure can be generously laid out. Travel via A38/A71 exit Sömmerda West, then B249. Shuttle buses from Mühlhausen station are traditionally organized.
