Most important village Volksfest — third weekend in October, Unstrut-Hainich district
The Kirmes Körner is the central secular Volksfest of the village of Körner — one of the districts of the rural municipality Nottertal-Heilinger Höhen in the Unstrut-Hainich district. Traditionally, the Kirmes takes place on the third weekend in October — a time when the harvest is complete and autumn reaches its peak in the rolling hills of West Thuringia.
The Kirmesgesellschaft Körner (Körner Fair Society) has organized the festival according to the classic schedule for decades: Opening on Friday evening with a dance in the festival tent, live music by regional bands on Saturday evening, Sunday morning Frühschoppen with brass music, children's fair on Sunday afternoon, and a cozy end to the festival in the evening.
The Nottertal-Heilinger Höhen rural municipality is an association municipality formed in 2018 in the Unstrut-Hainich district — Körner is one of its approximately twelve districts. The region is located in the hilly foothills of West Thuringia between Mühlhausen and Bad Langensalza, with views of the Hainich National Park — an agricultural low mountain landscape where village Kirmes festivals remain the most important form of community celebration.
The Kirmes Körner is part of a broad Thuringian tradition of village Kirmes festivals — as celebrated annually in hundreds of villages in the state of Thuringia. The rural municipality lists the festival in its official event directory as one of the central dates in the calendar.
The Kirmes Körner 2026 falls on the third weekend in October — October 16th to 18th, 2026. Three days of village Kirmes at the festival grounds, organized by the Kirmesgesellschaft Körner. The Nottertal-Heilinger Höhen rural municipality supports the festival as one of its most important calendar dates.
Friday evening opening with dancing in the festival tent, Saturday program with live music by regional bands and a dance evening, Sunday morning Frühschoppen with brass music and hearty Rhön cuisine, children's fair with carousel and games in the afternoon, cozy end to the festival in the evening.
