The central Volksfest of the Seilerstadt — multi-day from June 13 to 21, 2026
Schlotheim bears the epithet «Seilerstadt» — a reference to the centuries-old tradition of rope making in the town. Today, Schlotheim is a district of the Nottertal-Heilinger Höhen rural municipality, formed in 2018, in the Unstrut-Hainich-Kreis in western Thuringia. Despite the administrative merger, the identity as an independent town remains vibrant — and the Zeltkirmes is one of the most important identity and meeting formats of the year.
Unlike many Kirmessen (funfairs) that focus on a weekend, the Schlotheimer Zeltkirmes spans almost two weeks — from June 13 to 21, 2026. In the festival tent on the Festwiese, live concerts, club nights, a family day, and special cultural events alternate. The diversity of offerings is the program: the Kirmes is intended to work for all generations, from families with children to young adults, from regulars to newcomers.
Opening on June 13 with Nico Wieditz. On June 15, a literary reading with Romy Hausmann (bestselling author of 'Liebes Kind'). On June 17, a dance workshop with Miles Shane and 'Ladies Night' in the Tränenpark. On June 18, concerts with Seilerstädter Märchenbühne and The Fastfingers. 89.0 Clubnight on June 19. On Family Day, June 20, soapbox derbies will take place — combined with a large flea market and the Schlotheimer Seilerlauf. Performance by SimpleLive on June 20. Closing on June 21 with the grand parade through the town.
Schlotheim is located in the Unstrut-Hainich-Kreis, one of the less populated regions of Thuringia, whose identity is strongly shaped by the Hainich National Park and the World Heritage region. Mühlhausen is the nearby district capital, the World Heritage city in northwestern Thuringia. Events like the Zeltkirmes are central meeting points in this region — and are visited beyond the region by guests from Eichsfeld, Erfurt, and the Eichsfelder Land.
The 2026 Zeltkirmes confirms its tradition as the region's most important Volksfest. Over nine days, the Nottertal-Heilinger Höhen rural municipality offers a packed program of live concerts, readings, family events, and sporting competitions. The program overview is published on the official website of the rural municipality at nottertal-heilingerhoehen.de.
