Advent Starts in the Baroque City
With the LULUs AdventsMarkt (»LULU« stands for »LudwigsLust«), the city of Ludwigslust traditionally opens its Advent season on the first weekend of Advent. Around thirty market stalls are set up on the central Alexandrinenplatz in the heart of the baroque city center by regional vendors, associations, and artisans.
Market Offerings
The offerings are deliberately regional and handcrafted: wood carvings, woven textiles from the Mecklenburg manufactory tradition, honey, mead, mulled wine specialties, homemade cookies, candied almonds, candles, and gift items. Showmen with a small carousel and carousel horses expand the family program. Schloßstraße, in the immediate vicinity, is decorated with fairy lights and invites evening strolls.
Cultural Program
Accompanying the market is a "balanced cultural program": choirs from the region, brass music, small theater performances for children, and a series of Advent concerts in the city church. The city explicitly promotes the market as an "Advent market for the whole family.".
Local Context
Ludwigslust is located in southwestern Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and is easily accessible via the ICE high-speed train line between Berlin and Hamburg. The city is a popular excursion destination during Advent, not least because of its baroque cityscape and the palace and palace park, which are also accessible in winter.
