Stadtkapelle Asperg — Musicians by Tradition

The Stadtkapelle Asperg e.V. has been the most important musical institution in the town of Asperg in the Ludwigsburg district for generations. With its main band, youth band, youth brass orchestra, and collaborations with local schools, the Stadtkapelle is not only a concert ensemble but also a central pillar of youth and music promotion in Asperg. The annual Spring Festival is one of the club's most important own events — an opportunity to celebrate the connection with the town and its citizens over a relaxed weekend.

Program 2026 — May 9th and 10th

In 2026, the Spring Festival will take place on Saturday, May 9th, and Sunday, May 10th. Both days are officially announced on the Stadtkapelle's website with the poster "2026-plakat-fruhlingsfest-wmd-a3.jpg" — the start on Sunday is at 4 PM.

Saturday, May 9th — Festival Evening: The festival grounds open at 4 PM. Catering with classic festival dishes: grilled chicken, Swabian sausages, steaks, pretzels, cakes. Draft beer, regional wine, non-alcoholic drinks. The Stadtkapelle will perform on stage, supplemented by guest bands from the region — other music clubs from the Ludwigsburg district with whom they have an exchange relationship.

Sunday, May 10th — Frühschoppen and Family Day: From 11 AM, 'Frühschoppen' with brass music by the Stadtkapelle. Lunch from 12 PM (Swabian Maultaschen, roast pork, vegetarian options). Afternoon program with performances by the youth band and the Asperg youth brass orchestra — the younger musicians perform for a local audience. Coffee and cake in the afternoon. Festival ends around 5 PM.

Stadthalle and Forecourt as a Stage

The festival grounds extend between the Stadthalle Asperg and the neighboring learning pool — a central square in Asperg's town center. In good weather, the stage is outdoors with tents and festival seating; in case of rain, the program is moved into the Stadthalle. The Stadtkapelle is accustomed to this weather flexibility from decades of festival experience.

Club Promotion Through the Festival

The net proceeds from the Spring Festival go directly back into the club's activities: purchasing new instruments, financing rehearsal camps, supporting youth group activities, fees for external instructors for weekend workshops. Anyone who drinks a beer at the Spring Festival directly helps the next generation of Asperg musicians.

Fire Brigade Up Close

A special feature of recent editions was the close cooperation with the Asperg Volunteer Fire Brigade — they present their vehicles, let children try on helmets, and demonstrate exercises. A tradition that makes the Spring Festival a family event and simultaneously promotes volunteer engagement.

Asperg is a town of 14,000 inhabitants in the Ludwigsburg district, located at the transition from the Strohgäu to the Heilbronn region — about 15 km north of Stuttgart. It is known for the Hohenasperg, a former fortress on a prominent hill, which is now a correctional facility. The Stadtkapelle rehearses in Asperg's town center and is closely connected to the city's cultural life. You can reach Asperg from Stuttgart in 20 minutes via the S5 suburban train.
