Bad Krozinger Mozartfest — Markgräflerland in Classical Attire

The Bad Krozinger Mozartfest is one of the most beautiful classical music series in the Markgräflerland. Since 1998 — the 29th edition runs in 2026 — the spa town between Freiburg and Basel transforms into a festival venue for classical music every spring. Mozart is in the title, but the program is broader: symphonic works, chamber music, opera, piano, and family events. The organizer is Kur und Bäder Bad Krozingen GmbH.

Two Venues

The festival utilizes two very different locations. The Kurhaus Bad Krozingen is the main stage — a hall with 600 seats, ideal acoustics, home to the symphony concerts and major productions. The Schloss Bad Krozingen is the intimate venue — a historic moated castle from the 18th century with rooms perfect for piano duo concerts or chamber music. This mix of a grand hall and intimate castle ambiance is the festival's hallmark.

2026 Program — Opening with Easter Brunch

Opening on Easter Monday, April 6, at 11 AM: Easter brunch in the Kurhaus with the Johann Strauss Ensemble under conductor Tibor Szüts — waltzes, polkas, operetta melodies for a festive breakfast. On April 19, the Markgräfler Symphony Orchestra, with over 200 musicians, will perform a grand program featuring works by Orff, Bizet, and other composers. On April 26, the Young Opera follows — a scenic-musical evening with students from the Freiburg University of Music.

May — Mozart and More

On May 3, "Mozart Was Also Married" will be performed, featuring modern arrangements and world music influences — a playful approach to the festival's namesake. On Mother's Day (May 10) and May 20 at 3 PM, the family program "Scherz mit Herz" (Jokes with Heart) will be presented — an acrobatic show by ALEX & Joschi for children aged four and up. The festival concludes on Whit Monday, May 25.

The Castle Concerts

Between April 9 and May 14, the Castle Concerts series will take place every Thursday at 5 PM in the historic moated castle. Focus: piano duos, two pianos — an ensemble that holds a firm place in the festival's program and ideally utilizes the intimate format.

Bad Krozingen — Spa Town and Festival Venue

Bad Krozingen is a state-recognized spa town in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district with around 21,000 inhabitants. Its famous thermal springs, mild Markgräfler climate, and proximity to Freiburg make it a popular travel destination. The Mozartfest has complemented this profile for almost three decades — Bad Krozingen is now not only a spa town but also synonymous with sophisticated classical music in the region.
