The 1st Advent in Heiligensee

The Diakoniezentrum Heiligensee belongs to the EJF, the Evangelisches Jugend- und Fürsorgewerk e.V., a traditional Berlin-based social welfare organization. In the middle of the Heiligensee district, on the northern edge of the Reinickendorf borough, it organizes a small Advent market every year on the 1st Sunday of Advent, which is a firm start to the pre-Christmas season for the neighborhood. In 2026, the 1st Advent falls on Sunday, November 29.

Church Service and Market

The day begins with a joint church service at 11 AM. Immediately afterwards, from 12 PM to 6 PM, the Advent market opens on the market square of the Diakoniezentrum at Dambockstraße 76. The close integration of devotion and market gives the event its special character: not a large tourist market, but a community gathering with a Christmas program.

Arts and Crafts and Refreshments

At the stalls, you will find arts and crafts made of metal, wood, and ceramics – mostly from small manufactories and dedicated craftspeople from the region. Mulled wine, waffles, bratwurst, and hot drinks are available for refreshments. The proceeds support the EJF's diaconal work in Heiligensee.

Heiligensee – Berlin's Northernmost District

Heiligensee is located on the lake of the same name in the far northwest of Berlin, directly on the Havel river and on the border with Brandenburg. With its single-family homes, waterfront properties, and quiet streets, the district feels more like a village than a Berlin neighborhood. This very character also shapes the Advent market: manageable, personal, neighborly. Those arriving from Mitte or Kreuzberg should allow about an hour by public transport – and prepare to experience a different, quieter side of Berlin.
