Hennigsdorf — Industrial City on the Edge of Berlin
Hennigsdorf is located in the Oberhavel district, directly north of Berlin, across the Havel river. The city is closely linked to the German railway and steel industry — locomotives have been built here since the 1910s, and today Alstom (formerly AEG/LEW) trains, including ICE multiple units, are manufactured here. With around 26,000 inhabitants, Hennigsdorf is an important medium-sized town in the Berlin commuter belt, easily accessible by S-Bahn line S25 from Berlin Hauptbahnhof.
Festmeile — 26 Years of City Festival Tradition
The Hennigsdorfer Festmeile is one of the most traditional city festivals in the greater Berlin area. In 2026, it will celebrate its 26th edition. Over three days on the last weekend of August, the city center — Postplatz, Havelpassage, and Havelplatz — transforms into a continuous festival mile with two stages, market stalls, gastronomy, and fairground attractions. Unlike many city festivals, the Festmeile is laid out linearly — you walk along the city center, experiencing the full spectrum of the program.
Music on Two Stages
The musical program ranges from pop and Schlager to country and rock. Well-known acts from recent years include Gestört aber Geil, Dr. Motte, Mütze Katze, and Die Lärmer. A musical fireworks display on Friday evening marks a first highlight. Saturday and Sunday are characterized by stage concerts, family programs, and performances by local clubs and dance groups. Admission to the entire Festmeile is free.
Travel Directly from Berlin
Hennigsdorf is at the terminus of the S-Bahn line S25 (Berlin-Hennigsdorf), which stops directly at the festival grounds. From Berlin-Mitte, you can reach the city festival in about 35 minutes — a rare constellation that makes the festival an attractive weekend alternative for Berliners. Those planning a longer day can combine their festival visit with a tour along the Havel or a visit to the city's industrial history sites. The city offers restaurants, cafés, and accommodation options directly in the center, and day trips to nearby Oranienburg with its baroque palace are also recommended.
