The Berlin Fête de la Musique
The Fête de la Musique dates back to a French idea from the early 1980s: once a year, always on June 21st — the day of the summer solstice — musicians perform for free in public spaces, and the audience can listen freely and without charge. Berlin is one of the most ambitious cities worldwide for this format: over 90 decentralized stages, coordinated by a central Berlin office, from Mitte to Friedrichshain to Köpenick.
Seebad Friedrichshagen — Stage on the Müggelsee
The Seebad Friedrichshagen is one of Berlin's oldest and most beautiful lidos: opened in 1907, it is located directly on the Müggelsee, Berlin's largest lake, in the Friedrichshagen district (Treptow-Köpenick borough). A wooden terrace, sandy beach, and a small open-air stage make the location an ideal Fête venue. Those arriving from Mitte should take the S-Bahn S3 — final stop Friedrichshagen, from there a few minutes' walk to Müggelseedamm 216.
Sound and Atmosphere
The stage typically runs from 3:00 PM to 9:30 PM — various acts perform one after another, with no main headliner. The musical spectrum: German rock, indie pop, hip-hop, and rap, featuring the artists' own songs (as per Fête regulations). During the summer solstice, concerts, sunset over the Müggelsee, and the opportunity to jump into the water combine to create one of Berlin's most relaxed summer moments. Free admission.
