The Advent Market in Eastern Bielefeld

Anyone who wants to experience Bielefeld's pre-Christmas season beyond the large city center markets should stop by Heepen on the first Advent weekend. The Heeper Adventsmarkt will take place in 2026 from December 5th to 7th at the Amtsplatz in the center of the district — right in front of the former district office, now the seat of the Heepen district administration. The organizer is the Interessen- und Werbegemeinschaft Heepen e.V., the local traders' and business association, in cooperation with the City of Bielefeld and the district representation.

A Neighborhood Festival with a Family Character

With around 50,000 inhabitants, Heepen is one of Bielefeld's largest districts, characterized by a mix of rural tradition (the former Amt Heepen was only incorporated in 1973) and urban residential areas. The Advent market at the Amtsplatz reflects this mix: not a giant spectacle, but a dense, manageable market with a clear neighborhood character. You meet neighbors, clubs, school classes — and that's exactly the appeal. A few stalls are enough to create an Advent atmosphere that gets lost in the anonymity of the big city.

Mulled Wine Hut, Tent, and Culinary Offerings

The offerings are classic: a central mulled wine hut with hot drinks and punch, a heated marquee for longer stays in bad weather, and a number of food stalls. You can get crêpes, waffles, pizza, classic snacks (bratwurst, potato pancakes, fries), and sweets. New for the 2026 edition: an almond stand with roasted almonds, a specialty that should not be missing from any German Christmas market.

The Carousel is Back

A small sensation for families from the district: after a break of many years, the children's carousel is returning to the Amtsplatz in 2026. The business association has added the carousel back to the program after it was not available for years — a detail that particularly pleases parents with small children. In addition, there are stalls with handicrafts, small gift ideas, and club offerings — a mix of market and meeting place.

Heepen — the Rural-Urban District

The Amtsplatz is located in the historic center of Heepen, where the municipal administration of the old Amt Heepen was based until 1973. The former district office now houses the district administration — the square in front of it is the natural center of the district. Heepen is located in eastern Bielefeld, easily accessible from the A 2 (Bielefeld-Ost exit) and via city train line 2.

Embedded in the Advent Weekend

The Heeper Adventsmarkt is part of a series of smaller district Christmas markets in Bielefeld, running parallel to the large main Christmas market in the city center. Those who prefer quiet and neighborliness over tourist crowds will find themselves here. For the Werbegemeinschaft Heepen, the Advent market is one of the central annual events — alongside the Heeper Ting neighborhood festival in the summer.
