A special Advent market at Falken-Halhof in Bielefeld Senne — harp music, children's play area, and Christmas tree sales, Sunday, December 13, 2026
The Winter Market at Halhof is one of Bielefeld's most distinctive Advent offerings — a hermit among Advent markets, located off the beaten tourist paths in Bielefeld Senne, organized by a youth organization that has championed progressive values and community engagement for decades. The next edition takes place on Sunday, December 13, 2026.
A carefully curated selection of sales stalls: Homemade products from the Falken-Hof (honey, jam, homemade goods), crafts from the Bielefeld and East Westphalian scene (jewelry, ceramics, wood carving, textile art, printmaking), Christmas decorations, books from the Falken educational program.
A special feature of the market: harp music as a musical backdrop. The delicate, evolving soundscape of the harp complements the contemplative atmosphere of the market — no loud amplification, but a gentle musical accompaniment. Classical Advent carols, medieval pieces, contemporary harp compositions.
A dedicated children's play area at Halhof: Craft activities, small play corners, drawing and face-painting stations, and depending on the weather, outdoor games. Die Falken are a traditional youth and children's organization — Halhof is ideally oriented towards families.
The Falken kitchen offers fresh, balanced catering: warm soups, vegetarian and vegan options, homemade pancakes, freshly baked cake, hot chocolate, organic mulled wine, fair-trade coffee. Politically informed cuisine: regional, fair trade, with a value compass.
A unique feature of Halhof: Christmas tree sales directly at the market. Fir and spruce trees from regional, ecologically managed forests — an ethically sound alternative to conventional tree purchases.
For decades, Halhof has been the central location for SJD – Die Falken Bielefeld — a historic farmhouse in the Johannisbachaue in the Senne district, in the south of Bielefeld. Die Falken use the farm for youth work, educational events, summer camps, political seminars, and cultural events. The Winter Market is one of its annual highlights.
Sozialistische Jugend Deutschlands – Die Falken (Socialist Youth of Germany – The Falcons) is a traditional, social democratic youth organization, founded in 1922 (Vienna Children's Friends). It stands for anti-fascist, democratic, and solidarity values, organizing youth work at district, state, and federal levels. In Bielefeld, it has been active at Halhof for decades.
Bielefeld Senne is a district in the south of the city — scenically unique, with sandy soils, heathland, and the Johannisbachaue as a natural valley. Visitors to the Winter Market should plan a walk in the Aue — an unusually nature-oriented Advent atmosphere in the heart of Bielefeld.
The 2026 edition takes place on the 3rd Advent Sunday, December 13, 2026. Halhof, Talbrückenstraße 42, Bielefeld-Senne.
Free admission. Goods, food, and drinks directly at the stalls. Donations to Falken youth work are welcome.
