Three days of club festival on the market square with live music, Frühschoppen, and ecumenical service
When the stages are set up around Waldmohr's market square on the second weekend in June, the club tents put out their tables and benches, and the first vendors chill their draft beer, it's clear: the Marktplatzfest is imminent. Since 1980, local clubs have organized this festival independently, making it a hallmark of the Oberes Glantal administrative district. Up to nine clubs are actively involved in catering and the program—from the volunteer fire department and sports clubs to music bands and cultural initiatives.
The motto of the 2025 edition was "From Waldmohr for Waldmohr," succinctly expressing the spirit of the festival: it is not a professionally organized major event, but a thoroughly volunteer-driven community festival organized from within the community. This down-to-earth approach shapes the atmosphere and distinguishes the Marktplatzfest from many other city festivals in the region.
Friday begins with the official opening at 6:30 PM, traditionally with the keg tapping by the mayor. The youth stage on Friday and Saturday evenings offers young bands and DJs from the region a performance opportunity and creates the right atmosphere for the younger audience. Saturday is traditionally Rock Day: live bands from Westpfalz and Saarland play on the main stage, while the club tents provide Palatinate specialties, regionally brewed beers, and wines. Sunday starts with an ecumenical service on the market square, followed by Frühschoppen, a children's program, and a performance by the ethno-choir, which sings folk songs from around the world. The festival concludes on Sunday evening with live music.
Waldmohr is located on the border with Saarland and has a strong connection to the neighboring Saarpfalz region. Many visitors to the Marktplatzfest come from the surrounding municipalities of Schönenberg-Kübelberg, Bruchmühlbach-Miesau, and Homburg. The festival serves as both a tourist attraction and an important social meeting point for citizens. It is organized entirely by local clubs, ensuring its independence and the character of an authentic Volksfest (folk festival).
With the dates June 12th to 14th, the municipality of Waldmohr is sticking to the traditional date on the second weekend in June. Preparations have been underway since spring: the clubs are planning their food and drink offerings, the youth stage is inviting bands and DJs from the region, and the administration is coordinating logistics, security, and special permits. Thousands of visitors from Westpfalz and the neighboring Saarland are expected.
