Open-air wine and music festival in the historic Faust town of Staufen with three stages and three days of free admission
When the historic old town of Staufen im Breisgau is enveloped in festival atmosphere in mid-June, it's time for Wine & Music. From June 12th to 14th, 2026, the three-day open-air festival transforms the Faust town—famous for the legend of Doctor Faustus, who is said to have made his pact with the devil here in the 16th century—into a pulsating stage. Three squares in the old town will be simultaneously used: Marktplatz, Kronenplatz, and Weinbrunnen. You can stroll between the stages and experience a diverse music program in one of the most beautiful small towns in southern Germany.
The program reflects a conscious concept: diversity over specialization. Over the three days, bands will play music from jazz, blues, rock, funk, soul, salsa, brass music, oldies-pop, and occasionally electronic acts. As you walk through the old town, you'll hear a constant change between styles—which contributes to the relaxed, cross-generational character of the festival. Families with children, young adults, and older wine enthusiasts meet here equally and find their favorite stages.
Staufen is located in the heart of the Markgräflerland—one of Germany's warmest and sunniest wine regions, directly at the southern foot of the Black Forest. At the Wine & Music festival, the Staufen vintners present their best drops directly from the vineyards around the town: Gutedel (the specialty grape of Baden), Spätburgunder, Müller-Thurgau, Weißburgunder, Riesling, and Chardonnay. Tastings are available in small wine glasses directly at the stages—you can choose between honest Baden wines and a few premium varieties. Baden gastronomy is also offered: Flammkuchen, Wurstsalat, Vesper-Brotzeit, Spätzle, Maultaschen—all in the typical Markgräfler-Baden style.
Wine & Music is a completely free festival. It is organized by the Gewerbeverein Staufen (Staufen Business Association) in cooperation with the Staufen vintners, the gastronomy sector, and the Münstertal-Staufen holiday region. The concept is Volksfest-oriented: no entry controls, no festival wristbands, no disposable cup system—you can freely stroll through the old town, listen, and buy wine and food directly from the vendors. This generosity makes the festival one of the most attractive summer events in southern Baden.
Staufen im Breisgau, a town of about 8,000 inhabitants in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district, is famous for the Faust legend. The historical Doctor Johann Georg Faust is said to have died here in the 16th century at the Gasthaus Löwen during an alchemical experiment. Goethe elevated this legend to world literature in his Faust. Worth seeing are Staufen Castle on the Schlossberg, the city center with its medieval market square and historic architecture, the Faust Fountain, and the Faust Museum. In summer, Staufen is the starting point for wine hikes in the Markgräflerland and for Black Forest tours—Wine & Music is the social highlight of the early summer calendar.
The 2026 edition of Wine & Music follows the established concept: three days, three stages, free admission. The historic old town becomes an open-air festival area—from the first stage opening on Friday evening to the Sunday winding down in the late afternoon.
The organizer is the Gewerbeverein Staufen in cooperation with the Staufen vintners and local gastronomy.
Admission is completely free. Wine and food are available on-site at fair prices directly from the vintners and restaurateurs.
By car: Take the A5 motorway, exit at Bad Krozingen or Heitersheim, then follow signs to Staufen. By train: Staufen station (Münstertalbahn line from Bad Krozingen), about a 5-minute walk to the old town.
Completely free. Wine and food are paid for on-site.
If you want to fully enjoy the beautiful atmosphere of the old town, arrive in the late afternoon—when the sun sets behind the Markgräfler hills, the stages on the illuminated Marktplatz are particularly atmospheric. Try the local Gutedel—it perfectly complements the mood of a mild Black Forest summer evening.
