The 2026 German-French Partnership Festival will take place on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at the Freundschaftsplatz am Bach in Wittersheim (Municipality of Mandelbachtal). Local music clubs from Saarland and Lorraine, regional specialties from both countries, and the meeting of the partner communities make the day a family-friendly spring festival in the Bliesgau.

As in previous years, the Wittersheim local council and the Municipality of Mandelbachtal, together with the French partner municipality, invite you to the festival. The program and catering are traditionally managed by clubs and residents from both places — the Partnership Festival is a classic club festival, not a major tourist event.

Getting There

By car via the A8 or A6, exit Homburg, then take the B423 into the Saarpfalz district towards Mandelbachtal. Wittersheim is located in the southeast of the municipality; parking is available in the village center and at the Freundschaftsplatz.

By Train and Bus

Homburg (DB) train station, then take Saarvv bus line 510 or 514 to Mandelbachtal / Wittersheim.

Traditional orchards, streams, and rolling hills characterize the landscape, and the village itself has retained its rural charm.

Freundschaftsplatz am Bach — The Name Says It All

The festival grounds are not called 'Freundschaftsplatz am Bach' by chance — it was named in honor of the town twinning between Wittersheim and its sister community in Lorraine. A stream (presumably the Mandelbach or a tributary) babbles right past the festival area, old trees provide shade, and benches and tables are set up in the open air. An idyllic setting, far from the hustle and bustle of larger cities.

Music, Culinary Delights, Encounters

The program traditionally focuses on encounters rather than large-scale events. Local music clubs from Wittersheim and the French partner community play alternately, and residents from both places serve their regional specialties — Saarland's Lyoner, Schwenker, and Dampfnudeln alongside Lorraine's Quiche, Coq au Vin, and Tarte aux Mirabelles. Wine from nearby Lorraine, beer from Saarland — the border disappears with every sip and every bite.

Mandelbachtal as a Biosphere Municipality

Mandelbachtal is a municipality in the Saarpfalz district with just under 9,000 inhabitants, composed of several small districts (including Wittersheim, Ommersheim, Erfweiler-Ehlingen, Bebelsheim).
