A Village Festival with a Large Regular Audience
Oettersdorf has around 870 inhabitants and is located in the Saale-Orla district, a few kilometers from Schleiz. Every year on the second weekend in July, the village grounds transform into a small festival world: a stage, a campsite, food stalls — and an audience that has been gathering here since the 1990s for bands like Ton Steine Scherben, Dritte Wahl, Engerling, and Die Seilschaft. The Oettersdorf Open Air has evolved from a club festival into a fixed date in the rock, folk-rock, and blues scene of East Thuringia.
Organization by the Fire Department Association
Remarkable: the festival is organized entirely on a voluntary basis by the Oettersdorf Volunteer Fire Department. Stage setup, catering, security, waste disposal — everything is handled by the association. It is precisely this DIY mentality that defines the festival's character: no VIP areas, no sponsor branding, but rather a bratwurst stand, a beer tent, and a campfire atmosphere.
Musical Spectrum
The program ranges from folk-rock and singer-songwriters to classic German rock, blues, world music, and folk-punk. Recurring acts from recent years include: Dritte Wahl, Ton Steine Scherben, Die Seilschaft, Engerling, Hamburg Blues Band, Starfucker, Pothead, Transsylvanians, Julian Sas, and Joon Wolfsberg. A total of around 20 bands over three days.

The 34th edition of the Oettersdorf Open Air kicks off on Friday, July 10, with arrivals and the opening. Saturday and Sunday are the two main concert days, each featuring several bands on the central stage of the village grounds.

Oettersdorf is located near Schleiz, easily accessible via the A9 motorway (Schleiz exit). By train to Schleiz or Hof, then take a shuttle or taxi.
