About Schleizer Dreieck

The Schleizer Dreieckrennen is one of Germany's oldest and most prestigious natural road races. Motorsport has been held on the Schleizer Dreieck — a course made of public country roads around the Thuringian town of Schleiz — since 1923. The 91st edition takes place from June 12 to 14, 2026, organized by MSC Schleizer Dreieck e.V. Following the withdrawal of the main IDM series and the IRRC round, the 2026 race weekend presents itself as a transitional year with a mix of modern and classic motorcycle and sidecar classes — including the International Sidecar Trophy, German Twin Trophy, HR-Cup, and classic motorcycles. The supporting program includes a race party, paddock camping, and autograph sessions.

A Course of Public Country Roads — Since 1923

The Schleizer Dreieck is not a classic circuit race like the Nürburgring or Hockenheim, but a natural road course: Three public country roads in southern Thuringia are closed off for the race weekend and secured with hay bales, barriers, and tire stacks. The first race took place in 1923 — making the Schleizer Dreieck one of the oldest and most traditional race tracks in Germany. For over 100 years, riders, teams, and spectators have gathered in the Saale-Orla district in the state of Thuringia for a mix of motorsport, camping, and a Volksfest (popular festival).

2026 — A Transitional Year After IDM Departure

The 91st edition in 2026 marks a turning point. Both the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM) and the International Road Racing Championship (IRRC) will no longer be part of the Schleiz weekend in 2026. Instead, MSC Schleizer Dreieck e.V. is focusing on a diverse mix of modern classes and classic motorcycles. The organizers openly speak of a "season in transition" and are simultaneously working on a future concept for the coming years.

Two Weekends, One Course

The Schleizer Dreieck will host events on several weekends in 2026: the main race from June 12 to 14, the VFV Klassik Grand Prix from July 3 to 5, and the Schleizer Dreieck Jedermann (road cycling event) on June 20 to 21. Between Easter and October 3, the "motorwelt Schleizer Dreieck" — an exhibition on the history of the course — will also be open on weekends and public holidays.

Schleiz and the Saale-Orla Region

The town of Schleiz, once the residence of the Principality of Reuss-Schleiz, is located in the southern Thuringian Saale-Orla district near the state border with Bavaria. The race is an important tourist event for the region: camping in the paddock, hotels in Schleiz, Pößneck, and Saalburg, and gastronomy around the course. Lovers of classics, motorcycle fans, and families will find a weekend here that is more of a Volksfest than pure motorsport.

Schleizer Dreieck — edition 2026

The 91st edition of the Internationales Schleizer Dreieckrennen takes place from June 12 to 14, 2026, on the traditional natural road course in the Saale-Orla district. 2026 is a transitional year following the withdrawal of IDM and IRRC participation: a colorful mix of modern and classic motorcycle and sidecar classes, including the International Sidecar Trophy, German Twin Trophy, HR-Cup, and classic motorcycles. The supporting program includes a race party, paddock camping, and autograph sessions.

Season in Transition — The 91st Edition

With the withdrawal of the IDM and the cancellation of the IRRC round, MSC Schleizer Dreieck e.V. is using 2026 for a fresh start. The organizers have deliberately broadened the program: modern twin classes, the Historical Racing Cup (HR-Cup), sidecars, and classic motorcycles share the weekend. The goal is attractive racing for the loyal Schleiz fan base and, at the same time, a platform for the further development of the race track in the coming years.

The paddock opens on the Thursday before the race weekend. The Schleizer Dreieck is not just a race track, but also a festival site: between training sessions and races, thousands of spectators spend the weekend camping, around campfires, and enjoying bratwurst in the paddock.
