78th Edition — Volksfest with Triathlon and Cross-Duathlon
The Hohenloher Bergfest in Waldenburg boasts 78 years of tradition: what began in 1948 as a post-war revival of TSG Waldenburg has become one of the most important sports festivals in the Hohenlohe district. The organizer is TSG Waldenburg e.V. (Turn- und Sport-Gemeinschaft, founded 1848), a multi-sport club with football, triathlon, gymnastics, athletics, and children's cross-duathlon — all disciplines participate in the Bergfest.
The sporting highlight is the Kratschmayer Triathlon, named after a former club pioneer. Swimming, cycling, and running lead the athletes through the Hohenlohe landscape around Waldenburg. Simultaneously, the H.U. Nepper Children's Cross-Duathlon takes place — a mountain bike and running combination that particularly attracts young athletes. Both competitions have supra-regional significance and draw athletes from Hohenlohe, Baden-Württemberg, and Northern Bavaria.
Besides the triathlon and cross-duathlon, the Bergfest weekend is dedicated to the Bergfest-11er-Cup: a football tournament featuring local teams and guest teams. The TSG's athlete awards honor deserving members and successful athletes of the club year. Dance choreographies by the gymnasts, demonstrations by the children's cross-duathlon group, and a colorful supporting program round off the weekend.
Waldenburg is a town of just under 3,000 inhabitants in the Hohenlohe district, situated on a ridge (hence the name "Bergfest" — mountain festival) with an impressive view of the Hohenlohe region. Waldenburg Castle, once the seat of the Princes of Hohenlohe-Waldenburg, dominates the townscape. Waldenburg is connected to Heilbronn via Öhringen by the Hohenlohebahn railway. Bergfest visitors often combine the weekend with a castle tour or a walk at the "Schöne Aussicht" (Beautiful View) viewpoint.
The 2026 Bergfest weekend traditionally combines sport and Volksfest. Friday opens with a festival tent program and athlete awards, Saturday is dedicated to the Kratschmayer Triathlon, and Sunday features the H.U. Nepper Children's Cross-Duathlon and the Bergfest-11er-Cup in football.
The festival tent is open all three days — live music, dance choreographies by TSG gymnasts, Hohenlohe specialties, and cold beer ensure the typical Bergfest atmosphere.
Admission to the festival grounds is free. Triathlon and Cross-Duathlon entry fees apply after pre-registration. Food 5–12 EUR, drinks 3–5 EUR in the festival tent.
Take the Hohenlohebahn from Öhringen to Waldenburg, then a 10-minute walk to the sports grounds. By car, take the A 6 (exit Öhringen-Waldenburg) and the L 1051. Parking is available at the sports grounds.
Admission to the festival grounds is free. Entry fees for the Triathlon and Cross-Duathlon depend on registration via tsg-waldenburg.de. Food and drinks are available in the festival tent.
Triathlon and Children's Cross-Duathlon require pre-registration via TSG Waldenburg. On-site registration may be possible depending on the discipline.
