Motorsport History in the Saale-Orla District
The Schleizer Dreieck near Schleiz in the Saale-Orla district is Germany's oldest natural race track. For decades, the course has served as a stage for national and international motorcycle races. Every late summer, one of the most spectacular disciplines in motorcycle sport returns to Thuringia with the ADAC SuperMoto International German Championship (IDM).
What is SuperMoto?
SuperMoto combines road racing with motocross: on a special course of around 1.2 km in the start-finish area of the Dreieck, the track combines asphalt with a gravel and off-road section of about 20%. The riders perform drifts, jumps over several meters, and close overtaking maneuvers — all directly in front of the grandstands, providing spectacular proximity for the audience.
Three Classes, Two Race Days
Races are held in three classes: the international S1 as the IDM class, the national S2 for the DMSB Championship, and the S3 DMSB Cup for beginners and semi-professionals. The organizer is MSC Schleizer Dreieck e.V. in the ADAC, with sporting supervision by ADAC Hessen-Thüringen.
Family Race Weekend
Compared to the major road races at the Dreieck, the SuperMoto weekend is family-friendly with significantly lower admission prices and a compact atmosphere. The paddock and grandstands are close together, allowing even younger fans access to the machines and riders.
