Traditional village festival on the Schaalsee — clubs, vintage cars, and Low German theatre
The Dorffest Seedorf is a classic Schleswig-Holstein village weekend — down-to-earth, supported by clubs, and with a tradition that has been maintained for decades in the rural Duchy of Lauenburg. It takes place every two years and represents the social highlight of the summer for the community of Seedorf on the Schaalsee. The organiser is the Obst- und Gartenbauverein Seedorf e.V. (Fruit and Garden Club), which provides the festival hut and coordinates the programme — but the festival is supported by all local clubs.
What characterises this village festival is the diversity of the participating clubs that shape Seedorf's social life:
One of the highlights is the vintage car parade on Saturday, which has been an integral part of the festival since its early days and attracts lovers of historic vehicles from all over the region to Seedorf. Gleaming tractors, motorcycles, and cars roll through the village — a treat in a region where agricultural history is still visible.
Seedorf is located in the Duchy of Lauenburg district in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, in the middle of the Schaalsee Lake Landscape Biosphere Reserve. The municipality belongs to the Amt Lauenburgische Seen and is surrounded by forests, lakes, and meadows. Outside of the village festival, the community traditionally celebrates the Maypole erection on May 1st and a lantern procession in autumn — however, the village festival remains the highlight of the communal year.
The 2026 edition continues the proven concept: a three-day village festival with a programme from local clubs, the festival hut as a central meeting point, and food and drinks from village life. Preparations begin in mid-June with the construction of the festival hut; on June 20th, the traditional cider tasting opens.
On the weekend itself, the vintage car parade on Saturday brings historic vehicles to the village; in addition, the sports club's Low German theatre, 'Die singenden Schaalseejungs', and the Seedorf and Groß Zecher fire brigades are involved with their own programme items. The dismantling of the festival hut will take place on June 29th from 9 AM.
The exact times of the vintage car parade and individual performances will be published in advance on ogv-seedorf.de.
By car via the B208 or via Mölln, then towards Schaalsee. Parking is signposted in the village centre and on surrounding meadows. The nearest train station is Mölln (approx. 15 km).
Free admission. Food and drinks are offered by the clubs at local prices.
Construction of the festival hut: Friday, June 12th, 2026, from 5:00 PM (helpers welcome). Cider tasting: Saturday, June 20th, 2026, from 7:00 PM in the festival hut (public).
Combine the village festival with a hike around the Schaalsee — the biosphere reserve is one of the most beautiful nature conservation areas in Northern Germany.
