Family cycling action day in the Baroque Garden of Neuhaus Castle and kick-off for STADTRADELN 2026
On Mother's Day, Sunday, May 10, 2026, from 11 AM to 5:30 PM, the traditional Paderborn Cycling Day will take place in the Baroque Garden of Neuhaus Castle — the 24th edition since 2003. The event is organized by the City of Paderborn in cooperation with the ADFC (German Cyclists' Federation), local bicycle dealers, and the University of Paderborn.
Over 40 exhibitors will present the latest cycling technology on the expansive paths of the castle garden:
Visitors can test most models directly on a test course — e-bike test rides, in particular, are usually in high demand.
The City of Paderborn will host the program on the main stage: official opening by the mayor, drawing of last year's STADTRADELN prizes, live music, presentation of school awards, and activities with SC Paderborn 07.
The Cycling Day also serves as the kick-off for the 2026 STADTRADELN campaign. From May 10 to 30, 2026, teams from companies, associations, schools, and families will collect cycling kilometers for climate protection. The district town is participating for the umpteenth time — in the last three years, around 27,700 people participated, covering nearly 4.7 million kilometers. Registration is free at stadtradeln.de, and kilometers are counted via app or online. Main prizes include a visit from SC Paderborn 07 to winning schools, an adventure day at the Wewelsburg District Museum for winning families, and various other prizes and vouchers. Additional activities such as guided tours are offered by Bad Wünnenberg and Hövelhof.
Neuhaus Castle is a four-winged moated castle from the 16th century and was the residence of the Prince-Bishops of Paderborn for centuries. Today, it houses a grammar school, the Museum of Urban Archaeology, and the extensive Baroque Garden, which was restored for the State Garden Show in 1994. The garden combines French geometric flowerbeds with water features, a hedge maze, and linden tree avenues — an ideal stage for major events like the Cycling Day, the annual Castle Garden Fireworks, or classical concerts.
With over 200 kilometers of cycle paths within the city limits and its central location on the Padersee lake, Paderborn is considered one of the most cycling-friendly medium-sized cities in North Rhine-Westphalia. The Pader springs, the Almetal valley, the Senne cycle path, and the connection to the Egge trails make the city a starting point for day trips into the Sauerland and Eggegebirge regions. The annual Cycling Day at Neuhaus Castle is the city's most visible commitment to sustainable mobility.
On Mother's Day 2026, the City of Paderborn invites you to the Baroque Garden of Neuhaus Castle. More than 40 exhibitors will present city bikes, e-bikes, pedelecs, cargo bikes, and mountain bikes. Test rides, a children's course, helmet advice, police coding services, and a stage program make the day the annual family celebration of the cycling city of Paderborn.
