Farmers' market focusing on nutrition, agriculture, and nature at Schillerplatz – Motto 2026 “Wonderful World of Herbs"
The Schifferstadt Fruit and Vegetable Day is more than a classic farmers' market: it is a tribute to Schifferstadt's agricultural tradition, which has gained regional fame through asparagus and strawberry cultivation. At Schillerplatz, regional producers present their seasonal products, while clubs, associations, and institutions provide information on healthy eating, organic farming, regional value chains, and sustainable lifestyles.
In 2026, the Fruit and Vegetable Day is themed “Wonderful World of Herbs”. The focus will be on local culinary herbs such as basil, parsley, chives, thyme, sage, and rosemary, as well as classic Palatinate medicinal and wild herbs like nettle, ground elder, wild garlic, and dandelion. Herb experts will offer guided plant tours, and food stalls will present creative herb dishes – from green sauce and wild herb salads to herb lemonades.
Direct marketers from the Vorderpfalz and Rhein-Pfalz district offer fruits, vegetables, juices, honey, eggs, cheese, bread, sausages, and wine directly from the producer. The market is an opportunity to meet producers, discuss cultivation methods, soil care, and seasonality, and support regional value creation.
Health insurance providers, sports clubs, environmental associations, and the city of Schifferstadt use the day to provide information on healthy eating, everyday exercise, environmental education, and nature conservation. Hands-on activities such as cooking workshops, exercise programs, planting activities, and children's workshops make the Fruit and Vegetable Day a family-friendly event.
The 'Sattelstadt' is located in the heart of one of Germany's most fertile growing regions. The sandy soils of the Vorderpfalz are particularly well-suited for asparagus, strawberries, salads, cabbage, and other vegetables. Schifferstadt itself is often called the “Asparagus Capital of the Palatinate” due to its high asparagus production. The Fruit and Vegetable Day honors this tradition and makes it accessible to the general public.
The 2026 edition is dedicated to the “Wonderful World of Herbs,” making the wide spectrum of local plants tangible. At Schillerplatz, market atmosphere, information offerings, and culinary discoveries combine for an all-day family program. Schifferstadt farms, nurseries, and direct marketers will showcase their products, associations will present their work, and children can get involved in craft and planting activities.
