About Oyster Festival

A piece of France in the heart of Düsseldorf: The Oyster Festival brings fresh oysters, French wines, French pop music, and a relaxed summer atmosphere to the area in front of the Theatre Museum in the Hofgarten for several weekends in the summer of 2026. Confirmed dates 2026: May 16th, June 7th, July 19th, July 26th, August 1st, and September 5th — each Saturday or Sunday from 11 am to 8 pm. Concept: a day like on the Atlantic coast, in one of the most beautiful parks in Düsseldorf's city center. Fresh oysters from French sources, paired with Sancerre, Muscadet, and Picpoul de Pinet, and French pop music sets. The organizer is the Düsseldorf magazine THE DORF in cooperation with the Theatre Museum.

Düsseldorf — State Capital on the Rhine

The state capital Düsseldorf, with around 645,000 inhabitants on the Rhine in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, is the second-largest city in the region between Cologne and Duisburg. Known for fashion, art, and a French-influenced urban culture — over decades, Düsseldorf has become the German city with the highest concentration of French companies and institutions. The Hofgarten, a city park laid out in the 18th century, stretches from the castle to the Rhine — and houses the Theatre Museum Hofgartenhaus.

A Slice of the Atlantic Coast in the Hofgarten

The Oyster Festival is an event format by the Düsseldorf magazine THE DORF in cooperation with the Theatre Museum. On several summer weekends, the forecourt of the Hofgartenhaus transforms into a pop-up Atlantic bar: PING at the Theatre Museum. Fresh oysters, white wine, French music, relaxed atmosphere — the concept is deliberately minimalist and precisely for that reason successful. Visitors to the Oyster Festival come not for the show, but for the atmosphere.

Oysters and Wines

The focus is on freshly opened oysters: various types from the French Atlantic coast — Gillardeau, Fines de Claire, Spéciales — are opened and served on-site. Accompanied by white wines from typical oyster regions: Sancerre (Loire), Muscadet (Pays Nantais), Picpoul de Pinet (Languedoc), along with sparkling wines and also French cider for a family atmosphere. Crémant from Burgundy or Alsace for a Champagne-like vibe.

Music and Atmosphere

French pop and chanson music plays over the speakers — Yves Montand, Aznavour, Carla Bruni, Indila, current French indie bands. No stage, no show — but an atmosphere like on a summer day in a Parisian city park. Long tables, bistro high tables, small parasols, Hofgarten linden avenue in the background. Those who don't like oysters can order cheese, charcuterie, or vegetarian platters.

The Dorf — The Organizer

The Dorf is a Düsseldorf city magazine that specializes particularly in the city's culinary, artistic, and lifestyle scene. The Oyster Festival is one of the magazine's own formats — a mix of pop-up restaurant, neighborhood event, and curation. With the Theatre Museum, the magazine has found a partner whose architecture and Hofgarten location ideally support the concept.
