Psytrance, Techno and HiTech at the Slavic Burgwall
The Orange Sun Festival is one of the better-known Psytrance and Goa festivals in Northern Germany. It takes place annually at the beginning of July on a natural site on the outskirts of the village of Menkendorf, which belongs to the municipality of Grebs-Niendorf in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district. The site is located on the Rögnitz river, nestled between ponds, streams, and old trees in the shadow of a Slavic castle rampart over a thousand years old.
Four floors are spread across the site, covering Psytrance, Progressive Trance, HiTech, Hardtechno, Dark Psytrance, Techno, House, as well as Chillout and Ambient. The sound runs continuously from Friday 6:00 PM until Sunday afternoon. Over 30 international and local DJs are traditionally booked — the exact lineup list appears gradually on the official channels.
The festival positions itself as nature-oriented and communal: workshops, healing zones, art installations, vegan and vegetarian catering, awareness team. The Leave No Trace principle applies, reusable tableware is recommended. Admission is traditionally free for local residents.
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, with its vast, sparsely populated landscapes, is a preferred location for open-air electronic music festivals. The Orange Sun joins the ranks of Northern German Psytrance scene heavyweights like Indian Spirit (in Eldena, also in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district) and uses an archaeologically significant site as an open-air dance floor.
On the first weekend of July 2026, the natural site on the Rögnitz river will once again transform into a multi-day soundscape. Four floors will be spread out at the foot of the Slavic Burgwall Menkendorf, delivering continuous sound from Friday evening until Sunday afternoon.
The 2026 lineup will be released gradually throughout spring and early summer. Traditionally, over 30 DJs and live acts from the international Psytrance, HiTech, and Hardtechno scene will perform. In addition, there will be workshops, healing zones, art installations, and vegan/vegetarian food options.
Tickets are available in the festival's online shop (weekend pass €135). Camping is included in the price. Admission remains free for residents of Menkendorf.
