Anniversary weekend of the Music Association »Frankonia« on the Main riverbank
When the 150-year history of Dorfprozelten's brass music is celebrated in the summer of 2026, the town looks back on an astonishing tradition: The first documented brass music activities originated here as early as 1876, from which the current Music Association »Frankonia« Dorfprozelten later emerged. With the current association founded in 1951, the musicians are celebrating two anniversaries at once – 150 years of brass music and 75 years of the music corps.
The municipality of Dorfprozelten is located in the Miltenberg district in the Mainviereck region, directly between the Spessart and Odenwald forests. The historic village center with the 'Dorfplatz' (village square) on Schulstraße forms the natural stage for the anniversary festival. Today, over 30 active musicians shape the association's life and represent a modern yet tradition-conscious brass band.
As with comparable anniversaries of Franconian and Lower Franconian music associations, guests can expect the following throughout the weekend:
The anniversary festival is part of the rich festival culture of the Mainviereck – between Lohr, Miltenberg, and Wertheim, brass music is an anchor of identity that connects generations. For visitors from the Rhine-Main area, Dorfprozelten is also a worthwhile destination for a day trip to the Main, with walks along the towpath and insights into the town's shipping and barging history.
The grand anniversary festival of the Music Association Frankonia Dorfprozelten will take place from Friday, July 3, to Sunday, July 5, 2026, on the Dorfplatz / Schulstraße in Dorfprozelten. It marks not only 150 years of brass music in the town but also 75 years of the currently active Music Association.
The festival combines the typical weekend structure of Lower Franconian anniversary festivals – festival evening, ceremony, parade, and morning pint – with a strong connection to its own history. More than 30 active musicians present the program, joined by friendly bands from the Miltenberg district and the neighboring Spessart-Odenwald area.
The dates are officially registered on the event page of the municipality of Dorfprozelten; the detailed program will be published by the Music Association in the weeks leading up to the festival.
The exact program with times and guest bands will be published by the Music Association Frankonia via the municipal website and the press.
Admission to open-air concerts and the morning pint is free. A moderate admission fee may be charged for the festival evening on Saturday. Prices and advance ticket sales will be announced via the municipal and association websites.
Dorfprozelten is located on the B 469 (Aschaffenburg–Wertheim). Train travelers can reach the town via the Maintalbahn (RB 80) with a stop in Faulbach or Stadtprozelten and a short connecting taxi/walk. Parking spaces around the village square will be signposted during the festival.
Admission to the festival tent and the festival grounds is generally free; a moderate admission fee may be charged on the festival evening. Binding information will be announced by the music association in advance.
Those who want to get to know the Mainviereck can combine the festival with a hike in the Spessart or a visit to the historic old town of Miltenberg (about 15 km downstream along the Main).
