16th Pinneberg Summer Cinema under the Stars on Drosteiplatz
The Pinneberg Open Air Kino runs on three consecutive evenings in mid-August. Each evening, a main film is shown, complemented by a short film as a prelude. The selection traditionally covers audience hits from the past cinema year, with occasional classics or festival highlights. The exact programme is traditionally published in early summer on the city marketing website and on Facebook. Films start at 9:00 PM — as soon as it's dark enough.
Drosteiplatz is one of Pinneberg's most beautiful squares: in front of the baroque Drostei (now home to the Drostei Foundation), with old trees and an architectural coherence rarely found in the city. It is precisely this atmosphere that defines the summer cinema — a screen in front of the Drostei, rows of chairs under the trees, snack stands on the sides.
The organiser is Stadtmarketing Pinneberg e.V., an association of retailers, restaurateurs, and the city administration. Admission is free, chairs can be rented on site for a small fee — those who bring their own folding chair save money. Snacks, wine, beer, and soft drinks are available at the snack stands.
Pinneberg is the district town of the district of Pinneberg in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, with around 44,000 inhabitants. The city is located directly northwest of Hamburg and is connected to the major city via the S-Bahn line S3/S5 — making the Open Air Kino an easily accessible destination for Hamburg's summer guests too.
The official detailed programme for 2026 — six main films and six short films — will be published shortly before the event on the website of Stadtmarketing Pinneberg and on the association's Facebook page. As every year, the programme team meets in early summer and selects films from the past cinema year — usually a mix of audience hits, German films, and a classic.
The second screening (night film) each evening will be announced later in the 2026 programme. Current film list: stadtmarketing-pinneberg.info.
Take the S-Bahn S3 or S5 from Hamburg-Altona to Pinneberg (approx. 25 minutes). A five-minute walk from the station to Drosteiplatz. By car via the A23 (exit Pinneberg).
Free. Chair rental fee on site (small amount), own folding chairs and blankets welcome.
Film starts at 9:00 PM — arriving from 8:00 PM is recommended to secure a good seat. In case of rain, the event will be postponed to an alternative date (Stadtmarketing will inform at short notice).
