Kirchweih – the quintessential Franconian village festival

The Kirchweih, or »Kerwa« in Franconian dialect, is the social highlight of the village year in Lower Franconia. It originates from the festival of the church consecration and has evolved over centuries into a multi-day folk festival that brings the entire community together. In Steinsfeld, a district of the municipality of Wonfurt in the Haßberge district (Lower Franconia, Bavaria), this tradition is maintained around the sports center.

Meeting point Sportheim Steinsfeld

The venue is the Steinsfeld sports center, which becomes the festival center of the village during the Kirchweih. The Kerwa is supported by the interplay of local clubs and the village community – typical for the Kirchweih culture of the Haßberge region, where club life shapes the festivities.

Four days of conviviality

The Kirchweih extends over four days, from Friday to Monday. Characteristic features include beer service, Franconian specialties, hearty brass and entertainment music, and a convivial closing. The exact program schedule will be announced on-site and via the municipality of Wonfurt; the basic structure follows the usual Kirchweih pattern in the region.

Embedded in a vibrant festival year

Steinsfeld is an active district throughout the year with other festivals such as the Wiesenfest and the Dorfbrunnenfest. The Kirchweih forms the convivial late summer highlight and offers visitors an opportunity to experience authentic Lower Franconian village life far from the big folk festivals.
