Three-day Schützenfest of SV Knubbenschützen Münster-Gremmendorf on Münnichweg
The Schützenverein Knubbenschützen Münster-Gremmendorf e.V. was founded in 1958 and is one of the established clubs in southeastern Münster. The venue for all club activities is the Vereinsgelände am Münnichweg, near the Mariengrotte – a place of Marian devotion that plays an important spiritual role in the Schützenfest.
Münster-Gremmendorf is located in the south of the city of Münster, a district with a strong sense of tradition and active club life. Like many Münster districts, Gremmendorf has its own marksmen's association, its own carnival club, and its own traditional customs. The Schützenfest is the most important club event of the year and involves a large part of the district's population.
The 2026 Schützenfest runs from Saturday, June 20th to Monday, June 22nd, following the classic Münsterland schedule:
Muster of the marksmen at 2:00 PM on the club grounds. Afterwards, bird shooting – the traditional competition where members take turns shooting at the wooden bird. The children's festival with games, a bouncy castle, and snacks runs concurrently for the youngest club members. In the evening, catering and dancing in the festival tent.
Morning — Muster. Grand festival parade through Gremmendorf with the (new) king and queen, friendly clubs, and music bands. The children's king shooting, where the youngest marksmen elect their own children's king, takes place concurrently or afterwards. Evening event with dancing and catering.
Morning — Memorial service at the Mariengrotte for deceased club members. Afterwards, Frühschoppen (morning pint) at the club grounds. Afternoon — Award ceremony for the weekend's winners (king and queen, vice, children's king, shooting competitions). Wind-down in the late afternoon.
The Mariengrotte on the club grounds is a miniature pilgrimage site – a replica of the Lourdes Grotto with a statue of Mary, often adorned with flowers. In the predominantly Catholic Münsterland, Marian devotion and marksmen tradition are closely intertwined; the memorial service on Monday is a core element of the Schützenfest and underscores the event's religious character.
Münster, with around 320,000 inhabitants, is a university city and the capital of Münsterland. The city is considered one of Germany's most livable medium-sized cities – with a historic old town, an extensive network of bicycle paths, and an active cultural scene. Schützenfeste in the districts are an important counterpoint to student culture and significantly contribute to the identity of the neighborhoods.
The 2026 edition follows the club's classic three-day format. Dates confirmed by the official Knubbenschützen schedule.
