Fountain Festival in the Spa Town

The Bad Lausick Fountain Festival is the most important town festival of the Saxon spa town of Bad Lausick. It traditionally takes place in mid-June and lasts for three days. Unlike the major town festivals in Leipzig or Dresden, the Fountain Festival is compact, quiet, and typical of a spa town: it mainly takes place on and around the Schmetterling open-air stage, a charming open-air theatre in the town park. The atmosphere suits the spa town — no loud marketing machinery, but cultivated family entertainment.

Program over Three Days

From Friday, June 19th, to Sunday, June 21st, 2026, the program will run on and around the open-air stage. The main stage offers varied performances — cover bands, Schlager artists, dance groups from the region, children's show acts, acoustic concerts on Sunday. Market stalls around the stage offer regional specialties — Saxon bratwurst, Pulsnitz gingerbread, Quarkkeulchen, along with beer from the nearby Wurzen brewery and wine from the Saxon Elbe valley. For families, there are hands-on activities, a small bouncy castle, and face painting.

Bad Lausick — Saxon Spa Town with Tradition

The town of Bad Lausick, with around 8,100 inhabitants, is located in the Leipzig district, about 30 km southeast of Leipzig in the Mulde valley. It is one of the most traditional Saxon spa towns — its natural healing springs have been documented since 1730, and it was granted spa town status (Bad title) in 1996. Today, the town offers several rehabilitation clinics, hotels, a spa center with thermal baths, and a well-maintained town park with the famous Schmetterling open-air stage — a Bauhaus-style theatre from the 1920s.

The Schmetterling Open-Air Stage

The Schmetterling open-air stage is not just the stage for the Fountain Festival — it is an independent theatre monument: built in 1928, with characteristic Bauhaus architecture, a semi-open stage setup, and an impressive grandstand that frames the stage like a butterfly (hence the name). It is one of the most beautiful open-air stages in Saxony and a reason to visit in itself.

Bad Lausick is ideal for a weekend stay: Fountain Festival during the day, plus a thermal bath session at the Kursana spa center, a walk through the castle park with its old beeches and oaks, a visit to St. Kilian's Church (Gothic, with impressive interior). The Muldental region is quickly accessible from Leipzig and still a hidden gem for tourists.
