Event Arena Volksplatz — Open-Air Stage for 5,500

The Volksplatz Borna is an open-air event arena in the southern Leipzig Neuseenland, one of the largest of its kind in Central Germany. The amphitheater-style venue was built in the 1930s and now accommodates up to 5,500 spectators. A special feature: the approximately 370 m² permanently installed cinema screen — one of the largest in Europe. This makes the Volksplatz not only a concert arena but also a venue for open-air cinema. Borna is located about 30 km south of Leipzig in the Leipzig district (Saxony).

KARAT — 50 Years Anniversary Tour

On Saturday, June 20, 2026, East German rock legends KARAT will open the concert season at the Volksplatz with their tour celebrating their 50th band anniversary. KARAT — founded in East Berlin in 1975 — is one of the defining bands of the GDR rock scene («Über sieben Brücken», «Albatros», «Schwanenkönig»). The anniversary concert in Borna is a highlight for the East German rock generation and their fans.

Olaf Schubert and Rock in Symphony

On Saturday, August 22, 2026, the Olaf Schubert Comedy Show will follow — an open-air performance by the cult comedian from Saxony, who, with his V-neck sweater and quirky humor, has been one of Central Germany's best-known comedy acts for years. The absolute highlight of the season is «Rock in Symphony Vol. 6 — The Wild 80s» on Friday, August 28, 2026 — part of the festival weekend celebrating Borna's 775th city anniversary. Rock hits from the 1980s will be presented in a symphonic arrangement: a stadium-sized sound experience with an orchestra and rock band on the open-air stage.
