Decentralized autumn festival along the Grüne Pleiße in the southern Leipzig region
The southern Leipzig region is one of Germany's most exciting transformation landscapes: former open-cast mining areas that are now becoming lakes, old industrial sites being culturally reclaimed, and small Pleiße municipalities redefining their identity. The KulturLichter-Festival along the Grüne Pleiße embraces this transformation, bringing concerts, performances, light installations, and exhibitions to several locations simultaneously — Regis-Breitingen, Rötha, Böhlen, Neukieritzsch, and other municipalities.
Regis-Breitingen is located in the south of the Leipzig district, directly on the border with Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt. The town has an open-air stage and several venues that are regularly integrated into the festival. Local cultural creators, regional bands, and light artists shape the program — united by the idea of making the Grüne Pleiße culturally visible.
The festival combines three pillars. Music in various formats (bands, solo artists, choirs); light installations and projections that illuminate buildings, parks, and squares after dusk; and open formats for encounters that bring together associations, initiatives, and citizens.
The festival is organized by the association «GRÜNE PLEISSE», which aims for the sustainable development of the river course and its riparian municipalities. With initiatives, cultural parks, cultural centers, and freelance cultural creators, the association brings together a whole range of local players under the «KulturLichter» umbrella.
Visitors to the festival can combine it with an exploration of the Leipzig New Lake District — the re-cultivated lake landscape south of Leipzig, which emerged from former lignite open-cast mines. Hainer See, Markkleeberger See, and Cospudener See are among the highlights of the region.
The detailed program will be published on gruenepleisse.de and the event calendar of Kulturraum Leipziger Raum.
