Grand Carnival Parade on Carnival Sunday in Schopfheim — Motto 2026 „Ä bizzeli isch meh als nüt"
For almost a century, Narrenzunft Schopfheim 1935 e.V. has been the central guardian of the Swabian-Alemannic Carnival in Schopfheim. With its figures — from the Sternenzinken to the Bändelinarr to the Schiiebfüür — it is part of the West Upper Baden carnival, which has been cultivated in the Lörrach district for centuries. Schopfheim itself is located in the southern Black Forest, on the Wiese river, just under 15 km northeast of Basel and Lörrach.
The highlight of the Schopfheim Carnival is the Grand Carnival Parade on Carnival Sunday. In 2026, it falls on February 15, starting at 2:11 PM in the city center. Several hundred costumed figures, walking groups, floats, music bands, and friendly guest guilds from Markgräflerland, Wiesental, and Switzerland will parade through Schopfheim's main streets towards Fahrnau. The audience fills the sidewalks, confetti and Räppli (carnival paper) fly, and the costumed figures throw sweets and small gifts into the crowd.
Every Schopfheim Carnival has a motto. In 2026, it is „Ä bizzeli isch meh als nüt" (Alemannic: „A little is more than nothing“) — a typical Alemannic, tongue-in-cheek wisdom. The herald (master of ceremonies) is Max vom Viehmärt. The motto shapes the speeches, float messages, and carnival songs of the season.
After the parade, everyone gathers in the market square: here the float competition takes place — the most beautiful and creative floats are awarded prizes. Carnival badges are available for purchase, and refreshments are provided. On Rose Monday, February 16, the Historical Night Parade will take place through the narrow alleys of Schopfheim's old town — a particularly atmospheric version with torches and lanterns. The season ends on Carnival Tuesday, February 17, at 7:11 PM with the traditional burning of the Sternenzinken and on Saturday, February 21, with the Schiiebfüür at the Sieben Linden.
