Ten days of indulgence on the traditional Freßgass – Frankfurt's gastro festival
The Große Bockenheimer Straße – affectionately called "Freßgass" by the people of Frankfurt – has been one of the Main metropolis's most famous culinary addresses for over a century. Restaurants, cafés, delicatessens, and wine shops line the street between Opernplatz and Hauptwache. Once a year, in May, the entire street becomes an open-air banquet: The Freßgass-Fest opens its doors for ten days.
From May 13th to 22nd, 2026, the event runs daily from 12 PM to 11 PM. Sales stands from local restaurants and selected guest exhibitors are spread along the entire length of the street. Three music stages provide the soundscape – live, free, with changing acts from jazz to pop to Schlager. An estimated 250,000 visitors come annually.
The culinary offer is broad, but with clear Frankfurt highlights:
A special feature of the Freßgass-Fest: The Aktionsgemeinschaft Freßgass´ e.V. supports charitable projects, particularly the Bundesverband Kinderhospiz e.V. (Federal Association of Children's Hospices) and Stützende Hände e.V. (Supporting Hands). A portion of the stand revenue goes to donations – indulge with a clear conscience.
On both festival weekends (May 16th/17th and 23rd/24th), there's a children's program – entertainment, hands-on activities, child-friendly food. If you're traveling with family, come in the afternoon.
The Freßgass is located in Westend-Süd, framed by skyscrapers, the Alte Oper, Hauptwache, and the stock exchange. The location is incredibly central – easily accessible in a few minutes by subway (Alte Oper, Hauptwache) or S-Bahn (Hauptwache, Konstablerwache).
The Aktionsgemeinschaft Freßgass´ e.V. has been organizing the festival for years with a consistent concept: ten days of open gourmet street, three stages, weekend family program. Free admission.
