About Opernplatzfest

Eleven days of summer flair directly in front of the Alte Oper: The Opernplatzfest transforms the Opernplatz into an open-air stage with jazz, pop, classical music, and piano music, paired with international cuisine and an elegant atmosphere. A fixture in Frankfurt's summer calendar since 1978 – free admission. The stages around the Opernbrunnen, the illuminated opera facade at dusk, and the curated selection of regional and international top gastronomy make the festival one of the most defining summer elements of the Main metropolis. The organizer is Tourismus- und Congress GmbH Frankfurt am Main.

Frankfurt's Most Elegant City Festival

The Opernplatzfest is more than a classic city festival: Against the magnificent backdrop of the Alte Oper, the Opernplatz is transformed into an open-air stage for eleven days, where live music, top gastronomy, and urban flair come together. Founded in 1978 by then-Mayor Walter Wallmann as a thank you to the citizens of Frankfurt, the festival has evolved from the modest Lucae Fountain Festival into one of the Main metropolis's most renowned events.

Music Against a Historic Backdrop

On the stages around the Opernbrunnen, the program ranges from jazz and blues to pop and classical music, as well as piano concerts. Walk-acts and interactive installations ensure that no stroll across the square is boring. When the facade of the Alte Oper is illuminated in the evening, an almost Mediterranean atmosphere is created in the heart of the banking district.

Culinary Delights

Stalls from regional and international top restaurants line the Opernplatz: Frankfurt specialties, Alsatian Flammkuchen, Argentinian steak, Spanish paella – accompanied by cocktails from experienced bartenders and regional wines. Those who prefer elegance can reserve a spot in one of the open-air lounges.

In the Heart of the Banking District

The Opernplatz is located in the Westend-Süd district, framed by skyscrapers, upscale restaurants, and the Alte Oper itself. The festival is easily reachable by subway (lines U6/U7, station Alte Oper) from the main train station in just a few minutes – it's best to leave your car at home in Frankfurt's banking district.

Frankfurt's Favorite Summer Meeting Point

The Opernplatzfest is one of those Frankfurt festivals that appeal to all generations: bankers enjoying an after-work drink, families on weekends, tourists looking for atmosphere. Anyone experiencing Frankfurt in the summer should not miss this city center event that lasts for eleven days.
