Motto 2026: 'Wilder Westen' – Carnival highlight in the Main-Kinzig district
When the big Fastnachtsumzug (carnival parade) starts on Carnival Sunday in Wächtersbach, the small town in the Main-Kinzig district briefly transforms into a carnival hotspot in Hesse. The organizer is the traditional Wächtersbacher Carnevalverein (WCV), which has been organizing the festival for decades. 2026 is under the motto 'Wilder Westen' (Wild West), the entire town will be renamed 'Watchmanriver' for the afternoon of the parade.
The parade traditionally starts at 1:11 PM – the typical carnival time of 11 seconds past the hour, an allusion to the fifth season. The assembly point and start is the Messegelände (exhibition grounds). From there, the procession moves through Wächtersbach's city center, past the historic castle, through the main street, and back to the exhibition grounds.
In recent years, the WCV and its friendly clubs have presented over 100 parade entries – an exceptional number for a town of this size. Decorated floats, walking groups, dance troupes, tableaux, and music bands alternate. Master of Ceremonies Nicky Kailing announces the groups as the voice from the float.
From the tradition of recent years: Decorated floats like the 'Ski Jump' by Freddy Freunde Horbach, the 'Saloon Wagon' by the group DNA, or the 'Viking Theme' by Baubude Leisenwald. Walking groups costume themselves thematically: Space Galaxy by Family & Co. KG, Moulin Rouge Can-can by Comité de jumelage, Ghostbusters by SG Haitz 08.
Behind the parade is a dense network of aid organizations: THW (Federal Agency for Technical Relief), Police, DRK (German Red Cross), Fire Brigades, and the city administration secure the procession. Road closures for access routes are in effect from 1:30 PM to approx. 5:00 PM – residents are informed in advance.
After the parade, starting around 5:00 PM, the After-Parade Party takes place in the Gemeinschaftshaus (community center). Live band, carnival hits, festive atmosphere – the float winners are awarded free tickets to future events by the WCV.
