Tip
Bring a blanket or seat cushion – the steps of the Arena are made of stone. Arrive early, as the best spots fill up quickly on warm summer evenings.
A Stage in the Middle of the Salz
The Arena in der Salz is an architectural peculiarity of Bad Soden-Salmünster, the Hessian spa town on the edge of the Spessart: a tiered structure to the right and left of the river Salz becomes a natural grandstand, with the river stage located in the water. An open-air concert could hardly be more atmospheric – the music floats over the water, the audience sits on the steps, with the lush green of the Spessart foothills in the background.
Seven Evenings, Seven Genres
In July, the Arena transforms into an open-air concert venue for a week. The Wasserspiele Bad Soden-Salmünster presents a different performance every evening from Thursday to Wednesday: cover rock, acoustic pop, Spessart folk, talents of tomorrow, and the city's symphony orchestra. The format is familiar and friendly, with audiences coming from the Kinzigtal and the Spessart.
Free Admission – A Gift to the Town
The Wasserspiele are organized by the Tourist Information Office of Bad Soden-Salmünster. Free admission to all concerts – the town sees the festival as a summer gift to its citizens and spa guests. Food and drinks are available on site.
Spessart Spa Town on the Kinzig
Bad Soden-Salmünster is a state-recognized spa town with one of Germany's most abundant brine springs. The Spessart Nature Park begins right at the town gates – hikers and cyclists often make the Wasserspiele the musical conclusion to a day outdoors.
