One of Northern Germany's Most Beautiful Concert Monasteries

Kloster Rühn, located about three kilometers southwest of Bützow in the Rostock district, was founded in 1232 as a Benedictine convent and is one of the oldest preserved building complexes in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The associated Klosterkirche — a 43-meter-long, flat-roofed brick building from around 1280 — is one of the characteristic examples of North German brick Gothic with Romanesque origins. The medieval masonry of the three monastery wings has been preserved.

In 2010, Kloster Rühn and its Klosterverein received the Nordkurier Venue Award from the Festspiele for being a particularly innovative and exemplary cultural and concert venue.
