Spring on the Marktallee
With the Hiltruper Frühlingsfest, southern Münster traditionally kicks off the warm season. The festival mile stretches along the entire Marktallee between Westfalenstraße and Unckelstraße, with side streets and the St. Clemens church square also joining in. You'll immerse yourself in a program that combines the character of a classic Westphalian district festival with modern highlights: regional exhibitors, show stages, a club mile, a flea market, and Sunday shopping meet familiar Münsterland charm.
Over 120 Exhibitors and Two Stages
More than 120 exhibitors present predominantly regional crafts, artisanal products, fashion, decorations, and culinary specialties from the Münsterland. Two stages provide a varied show program with live music, dance, and interactive activities on both festival days. On Saturday evening, a cover band traditionally performs, complemented by a Silent Party with three DJs and wireless headphones – a special experience for all who want to continue celebrating after midnight.
Themed Miles Throughout Hiltrup
The festival is divided into several thematic areas: On the Volkswagen Car Mile starting from Osttor, the Oktaneum displays vintage cars and offers charity rides. The Club Mile around the St. Clemens parish church introduces Hiltrup's clubs, initiatives, and social institutions. Additionally, there are themed islands for garden art, sustainability, and regional enjoyment.
Family Flea Market
The family flea market is one of the festival's centerpieces. Organized with the support of the Förderverein Familienzentrum St. Clemens, it offers parents and children the opportunity to sell well-maintained clothing, toys, and books. The atmosphere is familial, and stall fees are kept deliberately low.
Sunday Shopping and Children's Concert
On Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., shops between Westfalenstraße and Unckelstraße open their doors. The retailers on the Marktallee thus complement the market activities, making the day a family outing. A highlight for the little ones is the children's concert by Nilsen on one of the stages.
Hiltrup – A District with Its Own Identity
Hiltrup is located about 8 km south of Münster's city center and has been part of the city of Münster since 1975. With its nearly 25,000 inhabitants, the old train station, and the established business street of Marktallee, the district has retained its own charm. The Frühlingsfest reflects this self-confidence: it is not an outpost of a major Münster event but an independent festival with a long tradition, supported by citizens and clubs.
Getting There and Background
Hiltrup is easily reachable by regional train in just a few minutes from Münster Central Station; bus lines also lead directly to the district from the Westphalian lowlands. For families from all over the Münsterland, the Frühlingsfest has been a firmly scheduled date in May for decades – the start of a long season of southern district festivals in Münster.
