Kirchweih in Honour of Saint Kilian
The Kiliani-Kirchweih in Obertheres is celebrated in honour of Saint Kilian, the apostle to the Franks and patron saint of Franconia. For over six decades, the Kirchweih has become a firm fixture in the festival calendar of the municipality of Theres — supported by the dedicated volunteers of the Obertheres community association.
Parade, Kirchweihbaum, and Schafhof
The centrepiece is the traditional parade from the historic town hall to the Schafhof, followed by the ceremonial raising of the Kirchweihbaum, accompanied by the folk dance and traditional costume group and the brass band. A continuously open amusement park with dodgems, a shooting gallery, and a tombola stall, an extensive culinary offering, and a varied stage programme round off the Kirchweih. 2025 was the 67th edition, so 2026 will be the 68th.

Obertheres is a district of the municipality of Theres in the Haßberge district, Bavaria, located on the Main River. The historic Schafhof provides the atmospheric backdrop for the Kirchweih, which attracts guests from far and wide.

In 2026, Obertheres celebrates its Kiliani-Kirchweih from 4th to 6th July at the Schafhof. Following the 67th edition in 2025, this is the 68th iteration of the traditional village Kirchweih.
The proven schedule: On Saturday, the Kirchweih begins with a parade from the historic town hall to the Schafhof, followed by the ceremonial raising of the Kirchweihbaum, accompanied by the folk dance and traditional costume group and the brass band. A continuously open amusement park (dodgems, shooting gallery, tombola stall), an extensive culinary offering, and a varied stage programme characterise the weekend. The detailed stage programme for 2026 will be published by the community association closer to the date.
