Largest homeland festival of the Lüneburg Heath with the crowning of the 80th Heath Queen
The Heideblütenfest in Schneverdingen is the largest homeland festival in the Lüneburg Heath and attracts a crowd of up to 30,000 visitors, which is unique in the region. Schneverdingen, the Heath Blossom Town on the western edge of the Lüneburg Heath Nature Reserve, uses the festival to celebrate the heath's blooming season while simultaneously staging regional identity in a vibrant format.
The festival spans four days, from Thursday to Sunday. Thursday opens with the 'Dämmerschoppen' at 6 p.m., which ushers in the festival week. Friday serves as a transition day with club and marquee programs. Saturday brings three defining program points with the Heath Blossom Run at 2 p.m., the lantern procession at 8:30 p.m., and the laser show at 9:45 p.m. Sunday culminates in the festive highlight with the festival parade at 12:30 p.m. and the Queen's crowning at 4:15 p.m.
The Heath Blossom Run on Saturday at 2 p.m. is a sporting tradition that will celebrate its 37th edition in 2026. Runners of all skill levels compete in various distances, traversing the heath landscape around Schneverdingen. The run attracts participants from all over Lower Saxony and beyond, combining athletic achievement with the festive atmosphere of the Heideblütenfest.
The lantern procession on Saturday evening at 8:30 p.m. is one of the most atmospheric moments of the festival. Thousands of lanterns move through the town center, creating a magical sea of light. Immediately following at 9:45 p.m. is the laser show, which transforms the heath blossom into a contemporary spectacle using modern light technology.
The emotional highlight of the festival is the crowning of the Heath Queen on Sunday at approximately 4:15 p.m. The 80th Heath Queen will succeed Jaane Köster and represent the Heath Blossom Town of Schneverdingen at numerous events for one year. The crowning is staged with a festive ceremony, speeches, and musical accompaniment.
The association 'Heideblüte Schneverdingen e.V.' has been organizing the festival for decades, managing its preparation, execution, and follow-up. Hundreds of volunteers are involved, and the town of Schneverdingen supports the festival with its complete infrastructure.
The 2026 edition continues the proven four-day format. The crowning of the 80th Heath Queen gives this year's event a special character and marks a round anniversary in the succession of Queens.
The town center of Schneverdingen becomes the festival hub for four days. The festival parade, lantern procession, and the crowning ceremony utilize the most important squares and streets of the Heath Blossom Town.
