Where Klein Nordende Raises Its Voice
Klein Nordende, with just under 2,500 inhabitants on the southern edge of the Pinneberg district, has a long tradition as a singing community. With the Festival of Choirs – Klein Nordende singt for short – the village bundles its musical sociability into a central concert evening, held every year in late spring in the Bürgermeister-Hell-Halle.
Several Choirs, One Evening
The focus is on the joint performance of various choirs from the region. Folk songs, sacred music, songs from the English-speaking world, hits from pop and musicals, as well as spiritual works alternate – each choir presents its own short program, often ending with a joint final song that unites all voices. Admission remains traditionally moderate, with proceeds supporting local choir work and club activities.
North German Amateur Choir Culture in its Element
Schleswig-Holstein is one of the regions in Germany with the highest density of active amateur choirs. Visitors to the festival experience a form of musical culture rooted in village structures: singers of all ages, volunteer choirmasters, an audience of neighbors, families, and friends. It is an evening that aims less for perfection than for shared experience and the preservation of a North German singing tradition.
Klein Nordende and the Pinneberg District
Klein Nordende is located in the southern Pinneberg district, in the commuter belt of Hamburg, and is easily accessible via the A23 motorway or the S-Bahn (S3 to Pinneberg, then a bus to Klein Nordende). Visitors to the festival often combine it with a walk through the typical marshland landscape or a trip to the neighboring towns of Elmshorn and Pinneberg.
