Germany's hellish garden party on the Elbe riverbank
The In Flammen Open Air – IFOA for short – has been a fixture in the German extreme metal scene since 2004. Hosted on the Entenfang grounds directly on the banks of the Elbe near Torgau in the Nordsachsen district, it has evolved from a small underground gathering into an internationally recognized festival with around 6,000 visitors. The organizers affectionately call it "Germany's hellish garden party" – a blend of brutal sound, relaxed camping atmosphere, and directness that has become rare in the over-regulated festival business.
The booking is consistently focused on the extreme subgenres of metal: Black Metal, Death Metal, Thrash, Doom, and everything in between. Headliners from previous years include genre giants like Asphyx, Grave, Hate, Satyricon, Primordial, or Schirenc Plays Pungent Stench. The festival also provides a stage for newcomer bands – an important value in a scene that relies equally on tradition and renewal.
Festival-goers camp on the grounds directly on the Elbe riverbank. Permanent sanitary facilities, showers, catering – the amenities are in place. Those who prefer not to camp can stay overnight in Torgau: a historic Renaissance city where the Battle of Mühlberg was fought in 1547 and the world's first Protestant church was consecrated in the Hartenfels Castle Church in 1544. History and metal – a typical Saxon combination.
The 2026 edition brings together the crème de la crème of underground metal on the Elbe riverbank for three days. 39 bands are confirmed, including headliners such as Asphyx, Grave, Hate, and Satyricon. Camping is included in the ticket, with permanent sanitary facilities on site.
The complete running order and stage schedules will be published in the weeks leading up to the festival at in-flammen.com/running-order.
