Bergische Heimatspiele since 1954
The Lüttringhauser Volksbühne e.V. is one of the oldest and most traditional theater and dialect associations in the Bergisches Land — founded in 1954, with an impressive 72-year tradition. Every year, it presents the Bergische Heimatspiele on its own open-air stage at Ludwig-Steil-Platz in Remscheid-Lüttringhausen. The next season will take place from June 13 to 28, 2026.

The Play 2026: "To err is human"
The 2026 production is a contemporary farce: "To err is human" by Christian Wüster.
The Story
Setting: a village in the Bergisches Land. Suddenly, all the water in the village runs dry — wells empty, taps dead, stream dry. As the men and women of the village search for solutions, unresolved conflicts between the sexes surface. Both sides declare a kind of "strike" against each other. What began as a water crisis turns into a blunt comedy about the relationship between the sexes — and about what can still be said between them today.
Style
The production combines comedic elements (slapstick, wordplay, situational comedy) with profound social criticism. A farce with substance — laughter and reflection at the same time. Stylistically in the tradition of the comedy of errors, with modern, regional references from the Bergisches Land.
The Open-Air Stage at Ludwig-Steil-Platz
The open-air stage is the Volksbühne's own stage — built, maintained, and operated by the association. With its open architecture and the landscape of the Bergisches Land in the background, it is one of the most atmospheric summer theater stages in the region. In case of rain, performances are moved to the covered indoor roof.
Bonus: Open-Air Concert by the Bergische Symphoniker
A special addition to the 2026 season: on Sunday, July 19, 2026, the Bergische Symphoniker will perform an open-air concert on the same stage — classical music with the Volksbühne atmosphere as a special event.
Tickets and Ticket Sales
Important: Tickets are sold only on the day of the performance at the box office starting at 3:00 PM. No advance online sales, no reservations. Those who want to be sure should arrive early. In case of rain and relocation indoors (Teo Otto Theater), the box office there will be valid.
Volksbühne e.V. — A Bergisches Institution
The Lüttringhauser Volksbühne e.V. is more than just a theater association: it is a dialect association, a neighborhood association, a stage for cultural identity for Remscheid-Lüttringhausen. The members are amateur actors from the neighborhood — families, friends, neighbors. Their productions are technically sound, emotionally authentic, and a genuine encounter with the spirit of the Bergisches Land.
Remscheid-Lüttringhausen
Lüttringhausen is one of the largest districts of Remscheid in the Bergisches Land — formerly an independent municipality, now part of the large Bergisches city. Known for the Lüttringhauser Volksbühne, its historic Lutherstadt culture, and the active community life of the Bergisches middle class.
