The RheinVokal Festival is one of the most renowned classical music festivals in the Middle Rhine region. From June 14th to August 30th, 2026, it will bring internationally outstanding artists to historic venues between Bonn and Bingen. The focus is on vocal sound – from medieval choral music to baroque vocal music and contemporary works.

The concert in Bingen on Sunday, August 2nd, 2026, at 6 PM, is titled La Follia, referencing the well-known bass from the 16th and 17th centuries that inspired numerous composers to create variations. The program includes works by Andrea Falconieri, Diego Ortíz, Antonio Vivaldi, Marin Marais, Claudio Monteverdi, and Georg Friedrich Händel.

The recorder soloist is Dorothee Oberlinger. She is considered one of the world's most important recorder players, a professor at the Mozarteum Salzburg, leads the ensemble 1700, and has received numerous international awards, including the ECHO Klassik. Her playing combines historical performance practice with an incredibly virtuosic and lively musical language.

The vocal part is performed by countertenor Alois Mühlbacher. Having gained fame as part of the St. Florian Boys' Choir, he has developed into one of the most distinguished countertenors of his generation. His clear, expressive voice is particularly suited to the early music repertoire.

The venue is the church at the Hildegardzentrum on Rupertsberg. Rupertsberg, opposite Bingen on the right bank of the Nahe river, is where Saint Hildegard of Bingen founded her monastery in the 12th century. Today, the site is set up as the Hildegardzentrum and houses a church whose acoustics and atmosphere are particularly well-suited for early music concerts.

The concert is a collaboration between the RheinVokal Festival and the Binger Meisterkonzerte, the regional concert series of the city of Bingen. Tickets are available through Ticket Regional and the Bingen city concert box office.
