Four Days of City Anniversary with a Grand Historical Parade
Teuchern was first documented in 976 – as a Saxon village in the transitional area between present-day Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia. 1050 years later, in spring 2026, the town in the Burgenlandkreis district will celebrate its anniversary with a four-day festival program in the Stadtpark and the town center – an undertaking that has kept the festival committee, led by the Teuchern local history society, busy for two years.
The town of Teuchern, now a unified municipality with around 6,000 inhabitants, is located in the southern Burgenlandkreis district between Zeitz and Hohenmölsen. Its history is closely linked to the region of the former Diocese of Naumburg and the legacy of the Reformation. Today, the town center, town hall, church, and the expansive Stadtpark shape its image – the latter will become the festival grounds for the 2026 anniversary celebration.
The event kicks off on April 30th with a school project day, where Teuchern's students will engage with the town's history. On May 1st (Labor Day, traditionally a family day in Saxony-Anhalt), the grand children's festival with entertainment, bouncy castles, and family activities will take place in the park. Saturday, May 2nd, will feature concerts, a dance evening in the festival tent, and catering by local clubs. Pentecost Sunday, May 3rd, is the day of the historical parade: At 10:30 AM, participants will gather in the town center; at 11 AM, the procession will begin at the Schützenplatz (marksmen's square), proceeding along a 2-kilometer route through the town, with over 1,000 participants in historical costumes, floats depicting episodes from Teuchern's history, brass bands, marksmen's guilds, traditional costume groups, and spectators from across the Burgenlandkreis.
1050th-anniversary city celebrations are rare – most German cities and villages celebrate major milestones every 25 or 50 years, but a 1050-year celebration, combined with a historical parade of this magnitude, is extraordinary. For Teuchern, it is a unique event: those who live in or originate from the town will likely remember May 3rd, 2026, for a lifetime. The Volksstimme newspaper and MDR reporters will broadcast live from the town, and a livestream with Chris is announced for regional historical remembrance.
The 2026 festival program is officially confirmed and includes a school project day, a children's festival on May 1st, a festival weekend in the Stadtpark, and the grand historical parade on May 3rd. Over 1,000 participants in historical costumes, floats depicting episodes from the town's history, and brass bands will march from the Schützenplatz through the town center. The Volksstimme newspaper will accompany the anniversary with a livestream on May 3rd ("Livezeit mit Chris").
Teuchern is located in the Burgenlandkreis district, about 15 kilometers west of Zeitz and 30 kilometers south of Halle (Saale). By car via the B91 or B176. By train: Teuchern station (regional train connections from Zeitz and Naumburg), from there a short walk to the town center. Parking spaces in the town center will be expanded and clearly marked during the festival weekend.
Entry to the festival grounds, park, and parade is free. Food and drinks available on-site for a fee. Individual events in the festival tent may have an admission charge.
Arrive early on May 3rd for the parade and secure a spot along the route – with over 1,000 participants and a 2-kilometer route, space along the way will be limited.
